Sun announces updated blade and rackmount servers based on the Six-Core AMD OpteronT processor.

On July 21st, Sun began shipping Six-Core AMD OpteronT processor-based blade and rackmount systems that are designed to bring new levels of virtualization for your most demanding applications, longevity and growth needs.

The updated Sun Blade X6240 and Sun Blade X6440 server modules and Sun Fire X4140, X4240, X4440 add X4540 rackmount servers provide enhanced virtualization functionality with VMware or Microsoft® Hyper-V for superior Windows® application consolidation and ECO efficiency, helping deliver speed, simplicity and savings.

Coming soon, Sun plans to release the updated Six-Core AMD Opteron processor-based version of the Sun Fire X4600 M2, the Sun Fire X4640.

Dell PowerEdge servers to feature new low power Six-Core AMD OpteronT HE processors.

Dell plans to update three PowerEdge blade servers, the M605, M805 and M905, and three PowerEdge rack servers, the 2970, R805 and R905 with both the Six-Core AMD OpteronT HE and Six-Core AMD Opteron SE processors for systems that are optimal for cloud computing and web serving environments.
